Latinx Artists Creating an Alternative Space

The artists

Luna luna

Luna Luna is a bilingual band from Texas that has been creating music since 2017. Their sound is best describes as groovy and rhythmic, with bedroom and dream pop influences. They expand their sound by collaborating with rap artists, and frequently borrowing from different decades of music, such as their most recent song: "Talk Too Much".



Though their sound is heavily influenced by U.S. music trends and pop, Luna Luna considers Latinx representation an important part of their mission with their music. Luna Luna embraces their heritage by singing in both Spanish and English such as in their songs "Fierra” and “Commitment.”



Chicano batman

Chicano Batman is a 4-person band based in Los Angeles since 2008. Their journey has been long but they have proven to be pioneers for the Latin Inde-rock genre. Chicano Batman views music as a force that brings emotion and thus gives more importance to creating music that moves their listeners. Their passion for music has propeled them to reach even those that aren't Latinos.

kevin kaarl

Kevin Kaarl is a Mexican singer-songwriter. He grew up in Northern Mexico and was inspired by the regions music. He even covered “Prenda del Alma,” by corrido legend Chalino Sánchez.

Kevin Kaarl's appreciation for the music he grew up with is clearly heard in his music. He mixes traditional folk music with rock and modern dream-pop sounds. His openess and musical creativity has led him to success in the U.S. market, selling out every show on his first U.S. tour.

The Marias

The Marias have received a Grammy nomination for their bilingual debut, CINEMA, and they continue to increase in popularity.


The Marias incorporate reggaeton, jazz, indie, and rock en Español to their sound which creates a unique blend for the band. Their song, ’Un Million’ has recognizable reggaeton roots and ‘Fog As a Bullet’ includes Spanish guitar. Lead singer, María Zardoya, recognizes that her Puerto Rican and Spanish ancestry materialize throughout her musical artistry. The band continues to embrace their cultural roots and be a large inspiration for bilingual bands to be recognized.


VALE ACEVEDO

Vale Acevedo is an up and coming artist from

Argentina. She is known for her Youtube covers of Argentine Rock Bands however, she has been creating her own music and making a name for herself.

Acevedo's popularity led her to releasing her first album "Delirio Spam" in 2020 and her second album "Buenas Noches Terricolas" in October 2022. Acevedo's sound has influences of rock, pop and synth sounds but also has acoustic songs that are beautifully simple. Acevedo's music is deeply personal to her and her vulnerability reaches her audience.
